Approach

Four phases across fourteen months. The first two produce no images at all.

Phase 01: Survey

Read the building before drawing it.

Four weeks of measured survey, paint scrape analysis and archival work at the Bath Record Office. We produce a layer drawing: every alteration since 1868, dated and attributed. Nothing is specified until it exists.

Phase 02: Position

The building decides what it may admit.

A written position, agreed with you and with the conservation officer, on which layers are restored, which are reinterpreted and which are removed. Six pages, no images. It governs every decision that follows.

Phase 03: Specify

Draw once, at full detail.

Five room typologies rather than forty-two schemes, each resolved to installation level. Joinery, lighting, textile and finish schedules are complete before a single order is placed.

Phase 04: Hold

Defend it on site.

Weekly site presence for the whole build. Substitution requests are settled by us, not by the contractor. The scheme that is approved is the scheme that opens.
